In winter months, we work in the cozy Indoors with the aid of beautiful nature photography slide projections. During good weather, April-October, we meet at various locations outdoors around NYC (Gardens and cityscapes) and at your on-site locations. Through various sketchbook drawing (pencil, pen, ink and watercolor) techniques and exercises, we study the subject in close-up and long panoramic views (incorporating structures and people too!)
Working with beautiful floral arrangements, we study basic structure of flowers and basic groups and masses of color, developing drawing, color and composition skills. Flower Basics: “Teardrop” Gerbers offers basic exercises to master the petal brushstrokes of basic gerbers, chrysanthemums, etc…
A Series will offer a sequence in mastering different groupings of flowers.
Watercolor Skills in a grid format to study washes, picking up water, brushstroke styles, color, & basic seascape image exercises. The Series builds sequences of skills such as portraying light & colorful shadows showing volume in still life, etc.

Color Studies and Palettes
“Color is Relative!” Studying Color Theory, Master Artists of Color, and working from life, we practice blending / mixing color from saturated colors into neutrals and learn lessons from experiencing limited color palettes: 1-color, 2-color, 3-color, triadic, analogous, complementary (split and double), High contrast, “Simultaneous Contrast,” neutral palettes, etc… Use hierarchies and quantities of color. Your independent personal goals create your own direction, learning how to use color to express your ideas. A Workshop Series builds your color skills, integrating them into your personal style. Color knowledge will influence all your art projects, enabling using a “full” range!
Or: How do we learn the range of “greens,” varying qualities in a landscape? Variety of subjects include portrait, still life, Photographic Slides as well.
