Perhaps it’s because she’s the daughter of Flora Bloom (really!) who loved nature and all things spiritual, and the granddaughter of Hortense, (“hortis” means garden in Latin)?  Of course! With this “Garden” genealogical pedigree, Lois translates and interprets the spirits of gardens in her work, a fusion of color, silhouette, light, shadow and transparency — a visual alchemy of dynamic design, image and mystery, aka, her GardenSpirits NY art collections…(and blogging about it too!)…

Lois Bender combines her background in art direction and graphic design with her creative talents using various mediums: drawing, watercolor, photography, and printmaking creating fresh syntheses of styles for retail markets and design industries.

Her newest GardenSpirits NY Collections in watercolor highlight the beauty of floral design arrangements and the artistry of floral designers with whom she collaborates to create art for florists, their clients and collectors. Her “sketch” to final “finish” process has inspired her to start her Nature Journal Sketchbook Workshops, teaching and sharing her skills with avid art lovers, learning how to draw their inspirations into journal formats. Painting, travel and gardens are her passions that inspire each other.

GardenSpiritsNY Designs grew out of her Retail Gift Industry experience and her love of nature. As an Art Director for the Godiva Chocolates Brand, she developed her product design expertise and love of the “Gift” Concepts. She flourished as she learned the art of letterpress and “handmade” books, crafting and developing her original journals into her stationery gift brand “TeaQuotes and GardenSpirits,” a gift collection devoted to the pleasures of Tea and Gardens. Her knowledge of Horticulture and Art merged in her work for the New york Botanical Garden, as a Retail Product Designer in 2000. Another collection, “Resonates” Translucent Art Panels for Architectural Interiors became an application for Interior Decor venues using her nature imagery. She licenses her art and designs to Editions Limited Art Publishers and Studio El for the hospitality industries.

Lois grew up in Woodmere, NY and knew she would be an artist when painting flowers at 5 years old! A graduate of Hunter College (BA) and Boston Univ. (MFA). She teaches art and watercolor in the Hamptons, NY at many venues including Wolffer Estate Vineyards, Sag Harbor Florist, Gurney’s Inn, LongHouse Reserve. She is also an Adjunct Art Professor at Essex County College in Newark. Lois Travels to Paris for inspiration to paint frequently…..Her most recent Solo Exhibition was in April 2015: ” ‘April in Paris’ Gardens” in Watercolorsat The Atlantic Gallery in Chelsea, New York City.
